New Hard Drive Windows Question
My friend's computer died, and required a new mb ram and cpu, but not the hard drive. So everything was replaced, and the new machine was as slow as a turtle. For a 2.4 gig Core 2 Duo with 2 gig 800 mhz ram on a decent mb, this should not be the case.
So we decided it was software running in the background slowing it up. Rather than formatting the old hard drive, I installed a new sataII drive, disconnected the old drive, and reinstalled XP on the new drive. It now runs as fast as any computer I have ever seen.
My problem? How do I now get all the old data off the old IDE drive? I plugged it back in after all the installation was done, and instead of booting from the new sata drive, it booted from the old IDE drive. There appears to be NO option in the bios to boot from the sata drive if the IDE drive is plugged in.
I am assuming I will have to change the jumper on the IDE drive, is this correct? or is there some way to make the IDE drive not bootable ????
Sorry but I am fairly new at this and your replies will be greatly appreciated.
MANY THANKS IN ADVANCE
David
