Default Forever crashing

Windows seems to be crashing a lot recently. It used to be explorer.exe (the program, not internet explorer) but now it seems to be random programs. When using my computer I can be sure it will crash within a few hours.

If explorer crashes, I can close it from the processes tab in task manager and the computer stops crashing. It will, however, keep working at a high temperature, like it's running something at full power.

Other programs tend to crash as well - from firefox to graphics to website editing, they all crash!

Can anyone help? It's starting to get slightly boring having to continually restart.

Thanks.

There are a few things you can check:

1. Your computer RAM might be faulty. Test it out by borrowing a new piece of RAM from your friend and test it on your computer.

2. Your computer RAM may not have seated into its slot properly. Take the RAM out and seat it firmly back into its slot and try again.

3. One of your peripheral devices could have been causing a crash. Test it by booting up in safe mode and see if it still crashes. If it does, it could be a faulty part on the main board.

Hope this may give you some help.

it might be a good idea to say the OS and service pack (Wsuch as windows XP, service pack 1).

Easiest way to get this is to open notepad, help->about

What I did was get RegistryFix and ran it to clean out all the old files from the registry...seemed to clean up and make my computer run better.
