Default Office 2007: Users Wary of Changes

Quote:
While Microsoft faces a host of challenges in maintaining its market share numbers and persuading customers to upgrade to its 2007 Office System suite of products when released in the second half of this year, its competitors face an equally daunting task of winning users away from Office 2007 and growing their numbers.

Heading the list of challenges facing Microsoft is the fact that Office 2007 has a new user interface, which could require extensive staff retraining at a significant cost, as well as a new file format, which has the potential to create compatibility issues, analysts such as Joe Wilcox of Jupiter Research, told eWEEK.

Ugh office 07 is bulky; tabs are nice for internet, but not for office suites. It makes work MUCH more complicated.. i'm sticking with office 03

Thumbs down Re: Office 2007: Users Wary of Changes

I agree with above post. I tried the beta a few weeks ago and it seemed unintuitive and more difficult to do simple tasks.

I really don't understand the point of chanigng the document format. .Doc doesn't take up that much space and ppl keep getting bigger hard drives.

Well if i reinstall it i will take some screen shots its like office XP on sterioid's when it comes to the look of the GUI, I was upset with the format change becuase when i started using it, i was in a class that used excel and when i sent my professor the XLS file she couldnt open it, and when i converted it it lost most of the Formulas.

So for now im back on Office 2003

Same here, I don't understand why Microsoft has to change a formula that already works great.

I installed the Beta, and to tell you the truth... I wasn't a big fan. Although, I'm sure it'll just take some getting used to.

If you're used to using all the old Keyboard shortcuts, ther's an option in the each app that'll enabled all the old keys. (i.e Alt+F to bring up the file menu, etc.)

For some pics... check out these links...

Office 12 Word
Office 12 Excel
Office 12 PowerPoint
Office 12 Access

Hope they help...

Money....... LOTS OF MONEY

What could anyone possibly need that Office 2003 doesn't offer, until you get into serious design /layout programs (which MS totally sucks at)

So..... if they don't seriously hype "the new and improved office" --which appears to be basically, no value added bloatware (like IE 7) --just cosmetic changes... .... but DELIBERATELY make it incompatible with the existing Office file formats --why would anyone switch?... No reason at all.....

So, They got to seriously focus all their energy on selling the "sizzle" --because they don't have any steak.

Zero, Zip, None, Nada.

IMO.... Office 2003 does everything I need till I get to major page layout, book design stuff (in-design, quark or framemaker --I prefer Framemaker)-- but if everyone realizes this, and if no one buys the MS Hype.... Bill's revenue stream dries up....

Bummer..... for him

Vista, IE 7 and Office 2007..... Utterly Useless crap from Redmond, existing only to separate you from your money.... and create a billion headaches as they debug it all using early adapters.
