Exclamation Microsoft Plans Six Core Windows Vista Versions

Microsoft has finalized the members of its next-generation desktop line-up. As expected, standalone Tablet and Media Center Editions are no more.

After months of maintaining that it had not yet finalized its Windows Vista line up, Microsoft seems finally to have decided upon a half dozen core Vista versions.

According to a posting on its Web site, Microsoft is readying six core Vista packages, or SKUs, plus two additional releases customized for the European Union that won't bundle in Windows Media Player, as ordered by European antitrust regulators.

On the line up are: Windows Starter 2007; Windows Vista Enterprise; Windows Vista Home Basic, Windows Vista Home Premium, Windows Vista ultimate, Windows Vista Business, Windows Vista Home Basic N and Windows Vista Business N. The "N" releases are those which do not include Media Player.

Thanks for the information. I heard vista is just like Mac OS X. Lots of people said that Microsoft is trying to copy from Mac.

I would figure windows doesnt need to fashion themselves after anyone since they dominate the market.
Imagine if bill could flick a switch and shut down every Windows system, this world would be a disaster.

Windows need to be fashioned after Mac's just enough that we will keep coming back. Everyone has to admit that those Mac's sure do look pretty when you look at them...Just figuring them out for us Windows users is another thing all together...

I do not believe, that buying a newer version of windows would be necessary. Remember how it was with the XP version? It took a year till it became usable. Besides, I have no satisfaction spending money each time the monopolist spits out another inperfect version of a product.

from what I've seen of Vista - it certainly does seem to copy aspects of Mac OS X.

Windows Gadgets = Apple's Widgets.
OS X Tiger looks more similar to what I've seen of Vista than it does to XP, imo.

And then of course OS X Leopard will come out around the same time as Vista.
