Default windows 7: Hibernation & Sleep, which one do you use?

windows 7 has two similar functions, Hibernation & sleep, when I left office for lunch, I also press 'sleep'. after several times, the computer gets slowly. and only by restarting, I can make it a little faster.
Then same situation occurs when I tried hibernation function for a while.
Which function do you usually use? Sleep or hibernation? which one is better to maintain the battery?

I prefer hibernation because I can I don't have to rerun the program I'm working with and there's no need to wait for startup loading time. Yeah, I guess hibernation is better than sleep mode.

Hibernate doesn't allow you to run download at low power but sleep does. As you are concern about maintenance of battery it is better to shut down whenever your job is finished.

I think sleep is the best way to save your battery. because monitor of your laptop are close not like the hibernate. Hibernate is to less the brightness of your monitor it consumes a power.

Hibernation slows down your system. Use sleep feature for best battery backup
