Default Computer continually restarts itself

hello,
i recently formatted my HD, reinstalled windows xp professional and installed a new DVD drive. ever since, my computer restarts itself many times, in different situations:

a. during power-on: almost always restarts a number of times before finally allowing me to work. the restart usually happens a few seconds after the XP logo comes up. I'm not sure, but i think this happens less often when there is no CD in the drive.

b. in the middle of work: the computer randomly decides to restart itself.

what can i do to stop this?
thanks!

I suppose there are som problem with video card, or RAM which is not completely pluggesd in. Check up all connections, you may damage them while installing the new device.

Mostly its a RAM problem, clean your RAM using an eraser or replace it.

see you have installed xp again its not solved then while re start how many beeps you here...if you are hearing 1 beep no problem in BIOS and RAM it is a problem in SMPS...the power is varying so its getting re started...once remove your cpu and remove the smps and clean the dust if deposited and connect it again..or connect some other smps of for testing purpose so it will be cleared..
