I am new to web design and such.

At the minimum add some structure to your root page. Currently everything seems squeezed into the middle. Speaking of squeezed, make sure you maintain the aspect ratio in your graphics, wether they be thumbnails, or full size. Possibly add some small thumbnail graphics to your listed names

a header would help, and that column of text is so small a large word wouldn't fit on a single line.
