I like the current page much more than the new layout. The text in the new layout is hard to read. Why are you changing it?

personally, I think the first one edges it.
The second one is too small. Maybe if it was bigger and centred, it might look better than the current one.

I like the new layout a bit better. I also think that the text may be a bit too small, but I like reading a white font off of a dark background than a black font off of a white background.

Your site design is good. But think about background calor -Red.
There are plenty of users in the web have color blind problem.
So most of website don't use pure gree or red as bgcolor.
