I have posted this with little results.

I am considering switching to dreamhost, but wanted to know of any personal (good or bad) experiences people have had with them. I have noticed that they do have frequent down times, but also like that they actually post this information for users to read, unlike other company that don't tell you about downtime.

So let me know what your experience has been with dreamhost.

Do a quick search over at webhostingtalk.com on Dreamhost. You will quickly find hundreds of reasons on why you SHOULDNT switch to Dreamhost. There a horror stories all over the place.

Forced upgrades
Account terminations for using too much bandwidth (on UNLIMITED PACKAGES)
poor support

The list goes on.

Any host that offered unlimited bandwidth or disk space is in for trouble.

agree that this host is not the best around.
i would suggest for hostgator, bluehost, hostmonster etc

i agree that there are some downtimes, but that's true with many hosting companies unless you are willing to pay an awful lot. With dreamhost, I have seen downtimes like once in 3 months and that too during night only.

However, if you are looking for best value for your money then dreamhost is good. I signed up using a dreamhost promo code i found. I paid about $70 for one year and got 500Gb disk space, 5TB bandwidth and a free domain name registration. You can host as many sites as you want in one account.
