Yeah, if you do a WHOIS on the domain, there's a couple things to look for. For example, if you go to one of my personal sites, fixago.com (don't go though, nothing there, just a testing site), you'll find some good info in the nameservers. WHOIS.NET is a URL that comes to mind for checking out that kind of info. Anyways, my info comes up with:
ns1.crucialwebhost.com
ns2.crucialwebhost.com
ns3.crucialwebhost.com
Letting me know I have 3 nameservers. Now, sometimes you might be with a company and the URL is different from the company you signed up with, meaning they are a sub-company of someone else. If I goto the URL listed, Crucialwebhost.com, it's the same site I signed up with.
That's how you can tell who you signed up with.
