I always see pictures of racks with tons and tons of servers but what I heard from a friend that is well learned about these things is that a webhost could be just a 1U server or just a desktop at this own home!!!
Several years ago I hosted over 600 domains from my home on two custom built pc's I built. Connection was an sdsl connection with package I ordered through speakeasy.net. I never really had any major issues on my rh7.3 web/dns/mail servers. I just got a good offer for the customers and took the $$$ from this person and made other investments. (However I still run my own 14 sites on an old dell pc running free bsd).
Means that Talyor doesn't have the normal home DSL lines.
I heard that Business SDSL lines are much more stable and have a better backbone than the normal residential lines.
Talyor, did you have static IPs? Wasn't it expensive at that time to have such a high speed line at your location?
But now with home users having so much bandwidth on their hands they are expecting more and more by the day.
Sometimes people may not understand that even if you have the fastest connection in the world, you still will be limited by many other factors.
