What does hosting usually cost for a small site

Hello everyone,

I have just started some schooling (teaching myself) about web design. I think I have something that I am ready to go public with so I know I need a real domain and a web host.

How much is a reasonable price to pay for hosting for a site that is only six static html pages. Nothing else special maybe an email address for my domain. Is about $5 dollars a month fair? It seems so to me but for so many web host choices. When I seek out popular host for hosting then they offer more then I need so why pay for features I will never use. humm so I guess I am back to where I started. What is a fair price monthly or annually for a site with so few demands?

To be honest I'd go for a free webhost like www.freewebs.com (they don't put banner ads on your website they just want a link from your webpages to them) and if you have a top level domain like www.yourwebsite.com then just point it towards the webspace.

$5/month is abit much for a simple 6 page website that isn't making money try one of the cheap webhost for $1/month.

That said, my old cheap webhost worked great for about a year then went offline, so I switched to a more expensive hosting company. Can't complain won it off of ebay.com for $7/ year.

I use godaddy for one of my small sites it cost $3.95/mo. Seems to have been pretty stable for the last 7 months.

If you're just learning about web design, you may as well start learning about tailoring your website so that it ranks well in the search engines and you get interested visitors to go to your website.

You'll have to lean about:-

keyword selection
making keyword rich pages
linking to other websites and having them link to you
Google's Pagerank
Submitting your website to the search engines.
What not to do to your website.

Search for SEO or Search engine optimisation, and look for guides etc.
Don't know what your website's about, but optimizing it for the search engines is a good way of getting interested people to look at it.

Your probably better off paying a bit of money to get support and better quality hosting, then going to a free hosting website. Like the post above, if you look around you can find a small hosting plan for just $1 a month, which is a great deal if you have a small site like you describe. But its definatly better paying a bit of money to get support, and better quality.
