Denying SSH and saving your brain cells
There are 2 files called host.allow and also host.deny.
If you have a static IP you may want to deny all access to your machine and only allow it from your own IP address.
That would immediately save you the trouble from getting hacked by brute force methods.
Open host.deny and enter
sshd: ALL EXCEPT 111.222.333.444 : DENY
Change the above with your IP
