Personally I would say "no." If you can figure out how to put together a computer yourself, I highly recommend building a custom one. You can make a really good one with the exact specs you want for about the same price if not less. You can probably find many good comp. buliding guides and you'll learn a lot about computers when you're done.

If you're lazy or completely clueless, then a Dell may be for you, but I would never buy a pre-built computer.

No, you can't do shit with a Dell. If you open it it's just like a fort:P And ofcourse the price: to high for what you're actually getting

Ehh... Although my computer is Dell i don't think it's a great computer.

Dell is more budget than quality IMO.

I've read very good reviews of Dells high end, mobile graphic workstations, and high end gaming laptops, as well as their 24" flat screens......

As far as their entry desktops..... I always assumed the reason you see more Dell ad's on TV than ANY OTHER MANUFACTURER, as well as "product placement" in SciFi channel shows (I think "StarGate" uses Dells) --is they are generally aimed at "younger consumers" --and evidently Dell requires more "first time" buyers (ie, the quality is such that they don't have so much repeat business, or customer loyalty).... but that's just a guess.... but MAN they spend a fortune on TV..... I bet if you buy a $500 box from them, $250 of it is marketing..... and it cost them $100 to build and ship --from China.

So... If I was wanting a desktop.... I'd go with the "read reviews", buy the parts you want, a book and a screwdriver, and build it yourself... that way you KNOW you got the parts you specked --not parts Dell got a good price on that week

If you're considering a notebook.... or looking for good deal on Dells --like their coupons-- you might want to look at Notebook Forums They have a section on Dells, as well as a section on whatever manufacturer is currently offering a discount, when and for how long..... you can pick up some really good deals that way

If you don't want to build a desktop yourself.... perhaps consider going to a local shop and have them build you a machine to your specs.... and get warranty on it... then, if something dies (and stuff does --trust me) you don't have to ship it around the country.... you just drive over and hand it to them and say "fix it".... I'll be back after lunch.

I have a dell, which is very nice for my gaming/web browsing...the lot, the only thing that I can say is that the USB ports are upside-down :S

The shipping was great also, they shipped 4 of them, screens and all and also gave us free accessories, either a printer or memory..we got the printer

Personally, I think Dell is the best, I have had my dell for 3 years, done everything I want it too, been through alot too! Moving it from my bros house back to mine and its all still in one piece! I love it, I would hate to part with it! This thing was cheap, 512 MB of ram, 2.7 GHZ, No floppy drive though, never found the use, but I have a CD/RW in one drive, and I think 8 USBs... Its the best damn computer! I did upgrade it to 1.5 GB of RAM, but holy wow! I LOVE IT! I recommend a Dell XPS if you want to spend a shitload of money

A couple of years ago I had Dell Computer and after just 4 or 5 days I started to have problems with power supply. After some time guy from dell come and he changed it for free but it was during my working time and I had to take a day off. Than I had 21$ per hour so I lost 21x8=168$ just because I bought computer with non industry standard parts otherwise I would fix it. My advice is if you are able to build your own computer don't buy any brand name computer, build it.
By the way, something similar happened with my HP laptop.
