I wish to install FreeBSD on an old pc that has a NIC "HP 10/100 BaseT LAN Adapter (Ethernet)". It seemed to be fine with RedHat but it's not being recognized now with FreeBSD. I guess the card is not supported. Is there an alternative solution and if so what steps would I take to configure FreeBSD to recognize my NIC.

If your HP card is PCI and if isn't being detected at boot, just forget it and replace it with another 10/100 PCI one that is supported with freebsd. IMO
