Default Improving computer security

Hi

Operating system : One of the best ways to improve your security is upgrade to the latest version of your operating system. Windows 2000 is in a completely different safety league to Windows 95. Linux is even better.

Anti-virus software : Unless you're a technical wizard able to spot viruses hiding inside files, you must run anti-virus protection software. You should also update the virus

File sharing : Unbelievably, many computers on the Internet have file sharing switched on. This is wonderful news for hackers, since any computer with Internet file sharing activated offers its content freely to outsiders. It's a particular problem for computers built before 2000, as they often have file sharing switched on as a default. You can easily check and change the setting.

Scripting : Unless you create VB Scripts (and if you don't know what I'm talking about, you're not creating them) you can disable Script Hosting. This is the weakness exploited by I Love You and similar viruses.

Keep sharing and reading
Thanks

I recommend Avast because it is free and very reliable. I have tried mcfee and Nod they were not as good as Avast.

As a computer user, you can avoid problems include viruses, spam, and spyware, by using simple safety precautions when you connect your PC to the internet. You can begin using the following security actions immediately.

When you download a file, Do Not select Run to install the program from the web. You should select Save and download the file to your hard drive. Then, before you install the program, run your anti-virus program to test the file. To test the file, right-click the file name, and select the Scan for viruses option.

To close a popup window in your web browser, click the large X in the upper right hand corner of the window. Do NOT select OK or Ignore or Close buttons within the advertisement, because you have no idea what action is performed behind the button. If there is no X on the pop-up or browser window, press the Alt-F4 keys to close the window.

I think another way to make sure your computer is secure is to check out different web browsers, so many viruses, malware, etc are aimed at internet explorer that in this case, its safer to deviate from the beaten path.

My personal favorite is Safari, tho firefox is a great one too.

At the very least, keep Internet explorer up to date.

Never rely fully on an anti-virus. use full security suite for full protection and security with maintenance. Also try to regularly backup your data and use system restore feature to create system restores. All these things will help you to be fully safe and secure in any case.

Regards!
