Default Format hd to remove Windows Millennium

Hi,

My daughter has an hp pavilion we bought a few years ago with windows ME. I have reloaded it dozens of times with the original cd's that came with it. However I do not beleive it really re-formats the drive and reloads.

When I try to boot up into dos mode and run the format command it reports bad command or something is running. I have removed norton and other things but still no go.

How can I re-format c drive to be sure it is a clean re-install?
Do you think hp burned something to the bios to not allow formatting c drive?

Well if you have a friend that has linux cd's redhat, mandrake or any other. Simply reload your system with linux. If you select redhat you can pretty much accept all the defaults on install jsut to get the o/s installed. This will clean your hard drive just don't select dual boot. Then you can upgrade to 2k or xp if your hardware supports it. Just a thought!
