I installed mandrake 9.0 in my PC, it's my first experience with linux and I cannot install any kind of software

. I always receive an error "Nautilus has no installed viewer capable of displaying " and the file name that I am trying to install. How do you install additional softwares? thks

Maybe because you are missing some modules.
Try installing through root and see what errors comes up and tell us about it.

I recommend upgrading from 9.0 soon. The version is around 2-3 years old which is really old in the linux world.

Mandrake includes its version of YUM called URPMI. In the Mandrake Control Center there is a gui interface to it, or you can use it from the command line. Instructions for how to set it up and use it are at http://easyurpmi.zarb.org
