FreeBSD evolved fron the Unix system if I am not wrong just like Linux and Linux has been transformed into many different distros.

Is BSD any different from its Linux counterparts or is it just another name for the almost same product?
Could I say that all these Linux systems are just differently colored Easter Eggs? All are eggs just a different design

you are correct in saying that the linux kernel is in all distros, they differ only by the package manager (i.e. availability of software packages ready to download).

FreeBSD is considered (even) more secure, and has a more centralised development approach. it is used in a lot of web servers.

Yahoo runs some of their servers on BSD. Highly stable and robust.
