Default Slackware installation requirements

Hello,
I have an old 486 box? I don't think it's a pentium class pc. I am thinking of learning a little linux and thought slackware may be a good distro to begin with. This is what I found on the slackware site.

Slackware Linux can run on 486 systems all the way up to the latest x86 machines (but uses -mcpu=i686 optimization for best performance on i686-class machines like the P3, P4, and Duron/Athlon).

Will it run on any 486 or has someone been successful installing on less system hardware/performance?
