No, they are open source programs that can do just about anything the expensive equals.

They are free and legal to download. However, if you wish not to purchase Office or Photoshop, these are nice programs to download instead of pirating Office, etc

Gimp is pretty good... Still, I have Photoshop, but in the absence of Photoshop which runs hundreds of dollars, GIMP is a viable alternative. Depending where you use software. Me on OSX, and as far as I know Linux, there's plenty of really good open source software. Good luck

GIMP is pretty good. I have Photoshop CS, but in the absence of that, considering the ridiculous prices of Adobe products, GIMP is a viable alternative. OSX generally has lots of open source soft, also Linux... it is more of a problem with Windows...

I believe download.com also has a list of free software for developers, that covers mostly web design.

for any of you that need a free 3d modeling program i highly recommend blender 3d its just as good and in many cases better than 3d max and maya. you can download it at blender.org and if you want to see how well it can do check out there gallery and animation clips section especially "elephants dream" animation.
