Default Newbie needs help....

Hey all. I'm fairly new to the game so forgive me if my webmaster jargon isn't up to code. I got into building sites sort of as a hobby. My background is really in marketing so building websites was sort of a natural add-on. Anyway, to make a long story short, I landed a nice contract with a state organization that gives me access to a LARGE number of realtors.

I'm putting together a site that's exclusive to the organization for it's members to advertise their listings on. My dilema is that I need to find a web based program for the realtors to edit their own listings and publish them to the site. I found one, and I promise this isn't spam...Realty Manager (Real Estate Software Manager) The only thing that scares me is that it only recommends 2,000 listings.

Does anyone know of another program like this?

Thanks netridge. I posted on another forum and was given the same reply. I checked it out, but I'm not sure if it's a little too complicated for me. I'm not a very advanced designer...mostly use WYSIWYG builder and basic html & java.

Basic Java? I guess it was meant to read "javascript".
I would so much love for Java to be basic, I'd feel so much smarter.

Wanted to thank Netridge for the hint about joomla. I love it and, it's open source. What's not to like about that.

I guess it was foolish of me to think that this was a forum to get help with something you didn't know much about. Next time I'll make sure I'm completely educated on a topic and then post a question about it to get an answer I already know...

By the way itorrentguy, when you wrote, "I would love so much love for Java to be basic...", was it mean to reda "javascript"? Just wanted to make sure I'm clear on that one...

As far as Joomla, I'll tell you what's not to like about it...I don't freakin' understand it! Open source means nothing when you don't know how to write code, otherwise, I would have used it.

On a more positive note, I admire all of the webmasters out there for their skill and wealth of knowledge. But for me, I juggle three small businesses and a wife, and just don't have the time to dedicate to in-depth design.

Cool Re: Newbie needs help....

Put a smile on one7media. Forum ARE a place where you learn. Learning is easy when you can take a joke or hint. This was obviously meant to be, at the most, humoristic or funny.

As far as Joomla goes (and most open source software), you do not need to be a programmer to use it. It would not hurt, mind you, but you do not have to contribute (code wise) to the community in order to use the program and most of the time, install/config/use are pretty much possible without real programming knowledge. That's what so hot about open source, people write the softs and let you use them for free. A little reading, installation of PHP (5) and MySQL's latest stable version and you should be on your way to total control.

Plz accept apologies if ever you where hurt but it remains a joke that was not even about you really since it is true that if I could code Java as well as I do Javascript, I'd be rich. Do not run away because of a misunderstanding, be it yours...
