Arrow Best Width for a Page

The most common screen resolution is 1024 x 768. In second and third are 800 x 600 and 1280 x 1024.

Which resolutions have you optimized your sites for? What are the widths of your pages?

Depends on your demographic. If the site's being used by everyone and their mother, 760x420 is what to go with last time I heard.

I'm making a high-end photography site that I'm going with 1000x550 though, because 99% of the poeple go go there will have atleast 1024 res

Well heres what i always use to create a site...

1. Who will be viewing your page.
Business
People at home
2.What is the track record of viewing sizes?
3.How much room do you need for the page.

The most important one is the track record, If you have a tracking tool, it should give you the OS Browser used and Resolution. See what most of the visitors are using and conform it to that.

But remember if you go for 800x600 your in good shape because most people arent under that. If you go larger you might have the issue of scroll bars for people with lower resolution.

I believe the best width for a page is 800x600. Most if not all computers can see that size. especially for people who have small monitors. You can also always set up your tables to auto stretch to the size of the users screen.

I designed in 800x600 with auto stretch.

I like to design sites set at 800 x 600.. I find this more universal and many people that view my websites' and my clients' is either at 800 x 600 or 1024 x 768. Although I have had clients ask to make 2 different pages specific for 800 x 600 & 1024 x 768 for advertising space.
