Default Web Hosting

I'm about to start a business in doing web design, and I wanted to know if this is right or not. If I am going to create websites for clients, and I have no way to get their sites on the web, will is work if I use Yahoo's Web Hosting service to get their domain name and site on the web? I don't see why it wouldn't work, but the only downside I see, is that I'll have to charge more for that service.

Can someone please help me out on what I should do about this delima, or am I even close to knowing how to get someone a domain name and a space for a site?

register a domain, say netfirms.com
once you register, point the dns to a server youre renting, say one from http://www.tophosts.com/

You will have FTP access to upload your html files, you can control the site and that way it is out there on the net.

Default Webmastering

Just wondering what I should charge for the creation and monthly maintainence of a realtors personal website. I am not sure what I should charge for the design of the site (about 10 - 15 pages) or for the weekly/monthly updates. If anyone could help that'd be fantastic! Thanks!

Hey jonathon,

I think that this website will help you create a system for charging customers.

Good luck!

Ive seen rates between 50-100 ca. Then you have to consider graphic design and content.
A 15 page website depending on the layout might be worth $800 to $2000, again depends on the content.
IMO, stay away from long term contracts

Hi,

I usually charged depending on the workload and the kind of budget the customer would have - I've stopped charging per page as it doesn't really make sense (you're charging for data entry) - so now I charge depending on the number of unique pages I need to produce and any updates I cahrge by the hour.

From my angle you should try some cheap domain name provider like godaddy and host like Globat. THe best part with Globat or some other hosting providers is that they have service where in you can host 50 domain in single hosting space, and this is really really cheap and easy for you to maintain it to.

I've also heard good things from friends using 1 and 1 webhosting as an alternative to Godaddy.com.
