What do you mean by light and shadow?
You want one of the images to be brighter and one to be darker?

That you can use the brightness control.

Check your layer style palette by double clicking on your layer. In the palette you will see a shadow option.

have fun.

There are some interesting Plugins that will let you actually cast a shadow from one layer to another. I've used this before by using the magic wand to cut a person out of a picture, inserting it as a layer in another picture, and then using the plugin to cast what seems to be a natural shadow on the second layer. This has to be one of my most used filters as a person without any sort of shadow just looks unnatural. I believe i got the plugin at the plugin site. Just put the plugin site on google, I would post the website but can't post links yet.

like the dude said before, if you double-click the layer (on the layer properties window) then it will open an area that will allow you to create an inner shadow and drop shadow. This used to be achieved by using filters way back when we still used eyecandy!

Put an object with black color under your original object, thats how you can make a simple shadow
