I too like the above menu look. It is easier on my eyes and makes everything look balanced, especially if you use two side bars on your site.

I would prefer both actually. Some people expect it on top and some people expect it on the side.

yeah i like top too. you can do some pretty neat, nonstandard things that way, using Flash or iframes or something. people are up there anyway b/c of the browser buttons.
