I'd say PSP is closer to Photoshop than Fireworks. Fireworks seems to be geared towards those that are into vector art, etc., not manipulating photos and what not.

Jasc Paintshop Pro, for sure!

I have it and I use it as much (and maybe even more) than I use Photoshop. It is easy to use and also has alot of neat functions. Try it!

I use paint Shop Pro. I actually prefer it over Photo Shop. It really all depends on someones personal preference and what you plan to use the program for. PSP has most of the features Photoshop has but not all of them.

All I could recommend is PSP ( Paint Shop Pro ) since I started to use it long before Photoshop. It's simple and easy and you can find some features from Photoshop as well.

Photoshop does have some alternatives, but they aren't competition. Photoshop is the best way to go in my opinion. If I were you, I would work on fixing Photoshop.

I've tried the GIMP, and I really hate it. It might be able to proform at Photoshop's level, but the interface isn't up to snuff, not even GIMPShop.

You could also use MS Paint, but good luck getting photoshop quality

I can't believe you listed MS Paint! LOL I only use that to send pictures through email. Other wise, it's too much trouble to make any sort of high quality looking image.

As I said in the other thread, I don't have photoshop. So I actually do use Paint. While what I make isn't as good as photoshop, it's a lot better than most can do in Paint (apparently). For example, I just did this.

While I didn't make it from scratch, I did have to remove a logo and text. This was the orriginal:
