I suggest you use Microsoft Frontpage to start off, the User Interface is very friendly for first time users, you'll get the hang of the program in no time. From then, you should start memorising some of the HTML codes, and then further move onto dreamweaver.

Frontpage has always been good, but it's also advanced a lot, i'd definitly reccommend dreamweaver it's codes are a lot cleaner and come out much better.

I would go with Dreamweaver because I find it easier to use than FrontPage and I think it has more options.

If you are new and have actually started with dreamweaver, which is a good choice in my opnion, try and learn about using css as fast as you can, as css is really great for formating your website, and dreamweaver handles css is a far better way than frontpage.

If you wanna learn HTML try the htmlbasix website. For graphics try paint.net.

I certainly found that Dreamweaver was much easier to learn on. As people have mentioned already, the codes are cleaner and its very user friendly.

Dreamweaver hands down, I have been using it forever and the split code/design view is great for seeing your code come alive or vice versa. Its better to understand some code rather then just WYSIWYG editor.
