Default Optimizing Website for Google

Alright, here's my problem, I've done every basic step of SEOing my website, using h1 tags, strong tags, underlines, all that good stuff. I've submitted to at least a hundred directories. Got a couple of anchor links with my keyword in it, but barely any traffic comes from Google. Search engine wise, I get 80% traffic with Yahoo and MSN and 20% with Google. Is there a distinguishing factor that Google looks for?

your keywords might be too general and you may be competeing with bigger and better websites. Google uses PR as a factor as well, maybe your competition has a higher PR than you?

I've heard many things about PR. Some people say it means nothing, while some people say it's very important. But the people that say it means nothing says that backlinks are important. Backlinks = PR, though. It probably is my pagerank because my competition seems have have PR's of 7-8.

if they've got pr7-8 and you've got a much smaller pr 1-5 you've got no chance of beating them. keyword density doesn't even come itno it. if they mention your keyword once they'll be no.1

I think you can beat them, if have a large no of BLs, largere than what they have i think you can have a great chance of over rank them.. especially if you focus on the weight of yur anchor text

I agree with cocoy. Having more quality links than your competitors is a big advantage. Good luck ('',)
