Default Differences Between Major Search Engines

What are the biggest differences between the three biggest search engines, MSN, Google, and Yahoo? I've only been trying to get a high rank in Google, while not even trying to search up my keyword in MSN and Yahoo. How do they rank websites? I heard one of them needs more backlinks rather than being SEO'd.

I think MSN is the one that is more about backlinks. Don't bother with MSN or Yahoo though, if you're going to put effort into SEO, then put your effort into Google. Although, sometimes getting backlinks can be easy, and if you have the chance to do it then go ahead, because you can't deny that some people do use MSN and Yahoo.

To summarize the answer, all major SE are requiring large amount of BLs.
Google probably gives more points to more related site that links to you.. while MSN and Yahoo still do considers metas and KW density

msn and yahoo are more into keyword density and linking text than google, which is into link counting and PR.

Just to add, google also considers the age of your website and the weight of your anchor text

Hi msn and yahoo mainly focuses on page optimization and on the other hand google uses a different algorithm that gives weight on the inbound links, the anchor text and age of link.
