How do you go on to make your Search Engine Optimized, do we have to buy some softwares, or can it be done by ourselves?

you should optise your website manually.

you need to select your keywords and put them in the title, meta and alt tags and swap links with other websites.

Softwares are good for example in getting SE rankings but their auto submission...
Never use it. it could banned you for that..

I know of some sites which offer submission to major search engines for a small fee.
Are you suggesting I should not go for them, or else my site will get banned?

Also, is there any harm if I submit my site to Auto-Surfing programs, will that affect my earnings, etc.

You dont need to submit yur site to major search engines

Search engines like Google,Yahoo and MSN can automatically find your site without even submitting it to them.
You can submit your site to Web directories like Yahoo and DMOZ for example.
There are many web directories out there that is just waiting for you and that is for free

SEO is a long process but has its rewards in the end.

Or you could hire an SEO company, they can really help you. Some of them are super expensive though, and the cheap ones don't do *beep* for you.

if you have a basic knowledge in HTML then you can optimized it your self... there are many forums in the net that gives you info regarding SEO

It is like optimizing a keyword for search engines. The keyword you want your visitors to search your site up as. I've never hired a SEO company because I just look up tips on the internet and do what they say. It's used to get the highest SERP. SEO + PR = Good SERP where the PR = quality, relavant backlinks, not only the number digit.
