I feel making the rules as you go helps. Just do your meta tags, submit to google, then forget for 6 months. Then optimise!

I you have have a fresh site, i mean a really new one, it can take up to 3 - 6 mmonths depending on your sandbox factor... Google is not only the SE out there.. you can fast result in yahoo and msn
