Local SEO” service for my web business

I have my own website but have never been able to place top 10 in the search engines. I have read about SEO and even tried to optimize to achieve better positioning without any results.
Can anyone point me to the right direction? I really don't know what I am doing wrong. I am not a professional developer, I am self taught, but have been writing html for years.

Any help will be greatly appreciated..

There’re so many factors: on page: keyword in title, link text, in bold, link text from back links, size of your site, frequency of updating your site..
Or Have a look at Organic Search Engine Optimization in my sign that for some more tips. The main thing is that seems to work is getting you to top from other sites to help you rank well.

I have written this from a business owner's point of view, and really explaining in general terms what things mean and why you need them.

The main thing that I see boost site's SEO rankings is when you submit a sitemap. It really is not "OK" to assume that google and other search engines can actually reach (!) every page on your site, so submitting a sitemap with all of your URLs defined and how often they change tends to be the highest performing thing you can do initially.

for getting good result keyword rich contents are essential. you should use keywords in title, anchor text, heading tags and make them bold. beside that backlinks are also very important for the site.]
