Don't go for mambo, because Joomla is Mambo re-designed...
But anyways, I sugest you use Drupal because it can easily be configurated for search engine friendly URLs and other great stuff...

I had heard PHPNuke was really good, that there was a big variety of different layouts for it aswell as big design companies like Template Monster support it and make layouts for it.

Its not from personal experience its just from word of mouth and etc. I use phpbb for my site sort of like a2b2. I find it easier to manage everything and to keep track of stuff.

Drupal is probably the best choice for your requirements. If not Joomla will do it also but I doubt that you have the patience to configure Joomla for search engine friendly URLs
