Okay, again, I'm a beginner.

From what I gather, there are two things with java. Java programming, which makes programs, and JSP, which is a server sided langauge.

Correct so far?

Now, for Java programming, how can I create a program as something to place on my pc - icon, run, etc.

for JSP, is that the best web based thing to use? And how do I go about doing it? Incorporating it with html, css, graphics, etc.

there aint just 2 things, there r many things in which java is used
applets, web-applications, enterprise-applications, servlets, jsps, stand-alone programs, etc.
also its used in mobiles, heard of J2ME?
