W3C and Tizag are the most popular and they have a lot of content on various web development topics. I find Tutorial Arena the best when it comes to PHP in particular. It has lots of code samples and uses syntax highlighting and comments in its examples.

To learn PHP, HTML coding is the prior requisite and you can definitely get many resource on net. i will help you out with few of the sites with some research homework

try w3school. all you need to learn are here...best tutorial..been using it since 2nd yr college...but im not yet good to php... :/ only used that for projects for our school

if you are beginner in PHP than w3c is best place where you can find all data and differenct tutorials are available for PHP freshers.

I agree with most of everyone else, they've noted some pretty great sites already, but here's my recommendations.

1. PHP Basics In Pictures - PHP basics with visuals!! Super useful for those that are visual learners
2. PHP Tutorial - from w3 schools
3. Online Computer Science Degree - if you want to take some basic courses, you can take a few online so you don't have to go to a campus
4. PHP: Basics - Manual - this was already mentioned above, but it's probably one of the most useful sites

You can learn most on your own without formal schooling, so it's nice to have all these tutorials online. Good luck!
