I am trying to bring in my PHP variable into a HTML form but am receiving nothing but empty areas on the client side.

my code

<input type="text" name="tradeInValue" value=" <?php $tradeInValue ?> " />
<input type="submit" value="Accept" name="Accept" />
</form>
<?php
.................................................. ..
$tradeInValue echo's a few lines above this code as well.......
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
