Unhappy php formatting/highlighting suggestions needed

I am open to suggestions on how people highlite parts of their program while debugging or writing large files. I like to use colors in my work to really make things stand out. But when I save the file, all the colors are gone. When writing very complicated files and need to leave for the weekend, I leave the files open.

Normally no problem. But this weekend the computer guy came into the office and did a large Vista update, which corrupted my open files somehow, which I uploaded to the server this morning. Now I have crashed the company website. (maybe he inadvertantly hit a key, maybe windows saved it, who knows). The stuff worked on Friday, now it doesnt.

After ten hours a day, my eyes get buggy and I just cant see my own comments so well. Especially when working with bits of code spread out all over.

What are you all using to keep track of bits and pieces of your program?? Especially when you work multiple days on a single file.

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Hi,
If you run a Website about programming, chances are that you display source code on your site's pages. Wouldn't it be great if the source code was highlighted -- displayed using different colors -- in the same way the desktop programming editors and IDEs display it? This would certainly make it much easier for your visitors to read the code.
