Which is the easiest programming language?

I'm a beginner and I want to learn one programming language at a time. Which one is the easiest? So far, I heard that Java and VisualBasic are the easiest to learn. When I was in college, I was taught a little of Visualbasic. I guess I didn't listen.

Rails on Ruby!

Java is difficult to maintain later on. Too much configuration files, etc. Servers are expensive unless you using JBoss. Microsoft ASP is good, but you know Microsoft, you are most prone to hackers. PHP is tough to pick up, it's not too object oriented.

QBasic, then Visual Basic, the Ruby, then Python, then you get into the bigger languages (C, C++, Java, ASM, etc.)

I learned QB when I was 10, VB when I was 12, Ruby and Python at 13, C, C++, and Java all at 14. I learned ASM way later.

Rebol is the easiest language I've found for beginners, and can be applied to so many different problem domains. I wrote a tutorial to help people use it as their first programming language:

ANSI C is probably one of the easiest languages to learn, but you won't be writing GUI apps or websites with it. Its a great foundation for all the professional languages out there, such as C++, C#, Java and PHP.

I would not go into VB since Microsoft is phasing it out and replacing it with C# (.NET) in the future.

First you have to tell us what you want to program.. Do you plan on making software for Windows? Or perhaps *nix? Or are you looking more to the web development sector.. (i.e., you would like to make web applications, etc.)

Either way, I highly suggest you learn PHP.. get a PHP book (or google php tutorials) and begin coding! Once you are familar with the fundamentals of programming, moving to other languages is much easier..

What you don't want is to start with some thing ancient like QB.. it's not practical at all.. sure you will learn programming, but it's really ancient.. you might as well be using DOS.

To teach you the basics of structure and OO principals then you can't really go wrong with Object Pascal in the form of Delphi. You can find various versions free on the net and it's still powerful enough to wirte some pretty cool Windows aps.

If you are asking about the easiest language then it is definitely VB but if you are asking about which language you should choose to learn then i would like to tell you that its not about the language which is easy or not.Actually its all about your interest in which language you have.
