im thinking online backup should rebrand as online restore!
backing up is easy and anyone can do it, the hard part is reliably restoring files in a timely fashion.

which brings me to my next question: has anyone here restored a decent amount of data with any of the free services available? how long did the restore take?

was the restore a complete process?

Good question. Fortunately, I haven't had to restore. I did test it with a small amount of data (pics/mp3s/word docs) and that was successful.

since posting this i started talking to some of our Service provider partners,

Hostway, Divinsa, E-backups Hosting.com

and while they do lose some business on price it seems they gain alot of free space users based on poor support and incomplete restores that can take several days to initiate!

spideroak.com also offering 2 GB free web space for Online Backup storage and Photo Sharing

SpiderOak is worth a look. The 2GB free plan is likely what I'll start off with.
I hope to have some feedback on the service.

For those in the UK, a company I just heard about is IRIS. It has a pretty good deal price-wise. I don't know too much about the customer service aspect.
