FTP is a service to transfer files easily.

If you want to check out FTP for yourself, get or rent yourself some server space, use an FTP client, add the IP and password of the machine you want to access and you can browse and trade files between the systems.

Different systems might have different FTP standards on them like FTPS or SFTP, so always check which port numbers they are using.

The main advantage of this FTP is it has automatic backup.
The main disadvantage is that encryption of data is not done in FTP.
