Or you can create a small program to zip all your files, and then download that file.

You can go ahead. Online backup system is much needed, and you should opt for one.

Try this business online backup company for easy set up. I think the most important thing is to get a backup provider who can automatically set your backup to a schedule so you don't have to mess about.

Online backup is only worth it depending on your situation.

If you have a lot of documents then the backup will be bigger...

If you have a large internet plan, this doesn't matter but with a small internet plan online backups can quickly use up your bandwidth and leave you paying more for extra bandwidth.

Another thing is speed, if you have 1GB of files to backup and its uploading at 10kb/s its going to take a ridiculous amount of time to backup. If you're doing a daily backup at this speed, you will start your wednesday backup before the monday backup has finished.

You have to then take into account the fact that these backup software packages slow your machine down around the clock and your computer has to stay on using more power than neccessary.

For big backups (>100mb) I would personally suggest you get an external hard drive to backup too. Even TB hard drives are not that expensive. For a more elegant solution get a NAS (Network Attached Storage) so you can backup over your local network at 10/100/1000 (depending on your router).

Hope this Helps.
