Default Offline backups

Guys I know there are many threads of online backups and most people use them..

But what I am wondering, is there any GOOD programs you can have run on a PC at home for example that would auto download all the files from the website via FTP and grab the SQL while doing so?

I've not seen anything like that so far...doesn't mean it doesn't exist. I'll ask around.

Would just be a good idea cause I only run a few personal sites for the most part and it would be alot easier and cheaper for me to have a script do that.. unless I could write a script to create SQL backups on a cron tab and I'm sure I can set an FTP program to auto download the files every day or whatever it is.

Why is it impossible? Can you elaborate as to why exactly this idea would not work? I think that it is a great idea in my personal view.
