Hey everyone!
I've been lurking around here for a while, but I've decided I like the forums, and started posting lately. I came for web design, so it took me this long to get to the bottom of the forums list, and see that I should introduce myself.
I guess I'm an IT Professional, but I don't do networks. Ten years in software QA and development, and I'm sick of the corporate life. For work I script in several languages, and have done some minor programming, too..
But I'm also a computer hobbyist. I used to be nuts about hardware, but not so much any more.
I've known HTML for a while, and hacked around in a few web scripting languages. Mostly client-side, like VB script or Javascript. I got my first domain in '99 or 2000.
For the past year I've been cramming on web development. Tons of PHP, starting with business systems and working around a model for requirements management and configuration management within a corporation. HTML/PHP/MySQL web apps for business. But I couldn't sell my boss on it, so I've started doing it for fun, and maybe eventually profit. With the decision to add more fun into the mix, I loaded up on CSS, too.
I like the range of topics here, and it looks like a fairly active forum. Not yet giant enough that I feel lost in a sea of voices, and with some interesting people. That's why I decided to join up.
I started a forum module in PHP/MySQL last weekend that's formatted completely with CSS. It's only about 75% functional right now, and it was challenging to do a forum without tables. It's a single PHP file with an external style sheet, so when I'm done I'll be able to drop it onto almost any site. SEO friendly URLS courtesy of mod rewrite and Apache.
The paragraph above this one probably tells you that I need to do something different with my spare time. That's right, that's how I spent my weekend.
So I hope that meets all the introduction requirements, and Welcome to My World.
