Giving a specific connection more speed?

How can I set my web server to give higher priority to connections like http, sql and ftp instead of others or totally block out other connnections like IRC relaying etc etc

If you are using ipfw, look into dummynet, which you can use to 'shape' traffic. ie add a pipe to give 50kb/s to FTP, 100Kb/s for HTTP etc.

I recommend setting it up on a test box first and becoming very familiar with it. It's a powerful tool.

I want to create a database of several hundred article directory websites, and then have them appear on my webpage in real time in order of their Google Pagerank multiplied by the number of pages each had indexed in google
