IP Masking and dropping pings

Trying to limit hackers so I thought if I can stop the PING it would help a little.
Is there a way to do it? But are there any problems thta I could face by doing that?

I read that search engines sometimes drop sites that are on servers with dead pings or blocked pings, so may not be a good idea...
