Can't login as root

Hi guys,

I have been learning on my rh9 pc for 3 weeks now. This pc is not connected to the internet or anything. This morning for some reason my root login password is not working. I do not want to have to re-load everything so how do I reset my nissing or currupt root password?

I can't just fail like that. And since its not connected to the internet, there could not have been a hacker.
Is the Caps lock or number lock on?

Maybe because of an inproper shut-down or another reason your password shadow file may be corrupt. When you get a login prompt type-> linux single
Now change password -> passwd root
