How do I untar or decompress a file that I downloaded from the Internet?

You need to download a program like 7-Zip
7-Zip is free software distributed under the GNU LGPL

How about WinRAR?
I use that to untar TarBalls

Well if you have a Linux server, you can just do a

Quote:

tar -zxvf filename.tar

And you will have your unpacked files.

As allon has mentioned from your terminal

tar -xvf filename.tar
Untar a tarred but uncompressed tarball (*.tar)

tar -zxvf filename.tar.gz
Untar a tarred and compressed tarball (*.tar.gz or *.tgz)
