Can someone tell me what is inetd? Because my mail server keeps jamming and when I restart this daemon it starts working again... It happens quite constantly like once or twice a day and I have to set up a cron job to restart it every hour... Some advice please.

I beleive it starts the Internet Network Daemon..........
Have you activated the service in "/etc/inetd.conf".

Here's a default line pertaining to pop3 in /etc/inetd.conf.

#pop-3 stream tcp nowait root /usr/sbin/tcpd ipop3d

sounds like a config file at fault.

inetd is also referred to as the 'super server' - it controls things like access to services like FTP, POP and IMAP. Usually, you enable (comment out) these services, then restart inetd so the changes take effect.

Best thing to do is read the manual for your specific Linux or Unix distro to see what the pitfalls are.
