Default how much should i ask for???

hi there;

i got offered a job and I was wondering what is a reasonable salary. I just finished my paper work in the US and I am eligible to work(GC). I have around 4+ years of experience in ASP, html,CSS,javascript,SQL server 2000,ActiveX (OCX),VB,vbscript. the job offered is web developer (html,css,javascript). Obviously I never worked in the US before and my experience is from three different countries around the world.

the guy who called me was interested in the languages that I speak and basically they require one of those languages with web development envolved (I imagine translating the HTML pages and make the GUI in another language). because i have no experience in US market, I mentioned 45k-50k (22/hr ; 25/hr) he said he'll try 25/hr but not sure. I told him i don't want to be down paid, his reply was that he is getting a percentage so the more I make the more his percentage will worth. he also mentioned its a 4 months - 6 months job and with health inssurance/dental/401k and up to $6000 if I took courses/classes.
This guy makes me feel as if I'm being tricked, u know what I mean. like he got hold of something he can make a profit off. He called to wish happy thanksgiving yesterday and said that well talk next week where he'll try to get me an interview. one more thing about it is that i have to change 2 metros to get there (40-50 mnts)

I am self insured now and don't need insurance. I have also some prospect jobs 60k and another for 55k(close distance). I will also be accepted for a masters degree very soon.

What shall i do guys? of course I prefer being underpaid and get some masters courses at the same time instead of sitting home getting depressed. I feel that having worked in a foreign country is a big disadvantage, I don't feel the experience I have is being appreciated. but c'est la vis!

thank you all in advance, and happy Thanksgiving

JT

Its like this, This sounds like a "Head hunter" or a Employment agencey, where did they find your name from????

I would go register yourself on ODESK, I use it often to get databases made and other things that would take too much ofmy time.

But you really need to scope the job market out to see what developers are getting paid.

And rule of thumb here in the states, If you feel like your getting scammed you probally are

Hope this helps.
